MY SIMPLE OBJECTIVES

WHAT FLOATS MY BOAT: Having fun partnering with engaged and motivated people, buildings a trust in common goals, feeling challenged, and  providing a variety of technical solutions for non-profits while solving their business needs

WHAT IS STILL FUN: Maintaining a close partnership with clients analyzing current state and defining practical and effective paths to future state by building, integrating and implementing technical solutions to solve specific business requirements.

HOW DID I GET INTO MY PROFESSION: I thought pursuing an electrical engineering degree and later working for the phone company would be a great way to go. I had worked part time for NETel and it was a good place, at the time. After my freshman year in collage there was a strike and a good friend told me to find something else. So I changed to business with a focus on computer science. I loved building business solutions and did so by writing a bill-post-inventory for non-profits. Got to love what you do and I was hooked for over 50 years.

PROFESSION AND AREAS OF INTEREST

Volunteer Web Developer | Delray Beach FL
2017 - Present
Recently, the most fun I'm having is providing tech-support for two non-profit spinning up new websites that use WORDPRESS as CMS with over 30 plugins such as Membership management, secured access, members only capabilities and many more. Further, these non-profits use Constant Contact email service, PayPal digital gateway, and leverage all capabilities of Zoom. Self-trained in use of LAMP technology, cPanel suite, PHP and HTML5 constructs across client / server topologies, the cPanels SDK includes all cPanel plugin capabilities such as SQL, analytics, library management, social networking and blogging. With this technology that I new label Legacy, I build a custom Framework with many capabilities and tools for the Boca Group. Some of the Client specific needs included scheduling, inventory management, membership management, station reservations, and role base management.  Lastly, I built an administrative suite allowing for timely implementation and ease of use, and continue to refactor solutions and developing new capabilities.

UNUM US CORP | Portland, ME
Employed for Unum Group in a global economy and where Forbes ranked Unum third in the insurance industry and No. 46 out of 500 overall on its list of best employers. My most recent team focus is adapting and moving from waterfall project methodologies to an Agile mindset using ScrumKanban or Scrum-ban. My project focus has been on infrastructure and conversions while providing production support. Recent examples include moving web, smartClient and service applications from COM+ to HIS-TI and as needed new DB2 stored PROCS, ASMX services to WCF, and sun-setting applications. In some cases these sun-set apps were re-written in C# ASPX.NET and leveraged various factory patterns. Further, completed many data conversions from legacy data repositories to MS-SQL or re-building existing data structures. Other areas supported included various smart client applications and web services. When support issue arose, performed detailed root cause analysis (CLICK to view recent RCA), associated solutions and implement application changes. In our Quote-Proposal domain, I built customer facing front-end proposal generation web based applications. This included proposal generation and delivery to brokers and customers. This further included heavy infrastructure focus ensuring latest design technologies were industry and company compliant such as using where possible OOA and SOA designs. Given I was part of the Operation Services team, our mission critical task was ensuring system stability and supporting production applications. Given my experience across many applications, I was the Quote-Proposal domain point for Disaster Recovery Planning and Business Resiliency testing that included all our Gold+ applications. For a few years I was responsible for migrations of mission critical applications across multiple environments which included quality control, variance analysis, library management and ensuring environment stability. Previously I supported billing and enrollment record keeping applications and built and supported retirement security applications writing key modules that included participant valuation and statement generation and delivery, all controlled by a UI front end. One of my last involvements in this business area was as a contributing member to the "TSA of the Future" where the entire business line was re-evaluated and new applications built to support customer needs. Other ad hoc teams included the corporate "Print Replacement" and sale of retirement security line of business to Lincoln National Life. Daily I maintain regular partnerships with local and offshore technical and business staff. Given the need to fill IT tool gaps over time and as demand existed, I built IT tools that supported application migrations and application problem management using IDMS data dictionaries and REXX repositories. Recently, I've begun exploring and embracing MVC4 and MVC5 patterns and capabilities.
